A Dhaka court today granted ad-interim bail to Uttara Club Limited's former president Nasir U Mahmud and his associate Tuhin Siddiqui Omi in an attempted rape and murder case filed by actress Pori Moni.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Shahzadi Tahmida passed the order after a long hearing on the bail petition from both the sides. However, the accused cannot walk out of jail as they are yet to get bail in the case filed against them with Airport Police Station under Narcotics Control Act.
During today's hearing, Advocate Abdul Baten told the court that their clients were not involved with the incidents, and Nasir is an elderly man who is suffering from several ailments.
Dhaka District Public Prosecutor Md Hemayet Hossain, however, opposed the bail petition, saying that both the accused sexually harassed the complainant and tried to rape her after physical assault. So, their bail should be rejected, he added.
Earlier in the day, the accused were produced before the court on completion of their five-day remand in the case.
Pori Moni filed the attempted rape and murder case against real-estate businessman and presidium member of the Jatiya Party Nasir, Omi and four other unidentified people on June 14.
A team of detectives carried out a raid at a house in Uttara Sector-1 and arrested Nasir and Omi in this connection that day.
